Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Clinic has denied allegations linking it to the death of Nigerian socialite Nwopara Jessica Elena and warned that it may take legal action against individuals spreading what it described as false claims on social media.

In a public notice issued through its solicitors, the Lagos-based cosmetic surgery clinic accused bloggers, content creators, and online activists of publishing defamatory statements about its alleged involvement in Elena’s death.

The clinic said the publications were “false, malicious, defamatory and disparaging” and appeared to be part of a deliberate attempt to damage its reputation.

According to the statement, the facility had built its reputation over the years by providing services to clients from diverse backgrounds while maintaining professional standards and respect for patients’ rights.

“For the avoidance of doubt,” the clinic said Elena was referred from its facility on February 19, 2026, to a multi-specialist tertiary healthcare centre in Mushin, Lagos, for further specialist care and medical management.

The clinic added that the patient was later taken to another medical facility not known to it, where she eventually died.

It also distanced itself from photographs of the deceased currently circulating on social media, stating that the images did not originate from the clinic.

The notice warned individuals responsible for originating, publishing or sharing what it described as false information to stop associating the clinic with the images or with claims surrounding Elena’s death.

The clinic further stated that it would not hesitate to pursue legal action against anyone found culpable.

“Our client is a law-abiding corporate citizen and would not fail to apply the full weight of the law against anyone engaged in these unwholesome practices,” the notice said.

It added that the clinic was considering instituting civil proceedings for defamation and could seek substantial damages and injunctive relief against those responsible for the publications.

Elena’s death has attracted attention on social media in recent days, with people debating the safety of cosmetic surgery procedures and the role of clinics involved in such treatments.

Reports circulating online claim the socialite underwent a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), a cosmetic procedure that involves transferring fat from one part of the body to the buttocks to enhance shape and volume.

Her death was first announced by her sister in a social media post that spread across several platforms and triggered public reactions.

According to accounts shared by family members online, Elena had undergone a cosmetic procedure in early February 2026 and began experiencing severe pain and swelling shortly afterwards.

Medical tests reportedly showed complications, including signs of infection, which required further medical attention and blood transfusions.

Family members also claimed that a second procedure was later carried out in an attempt to remove excess fat believed to be causing complications.

Despite the intervention, her condition was said to have worsened in the days that followed.

She was later moved between hospitals as relatives sought additional treatment for her condition.

The circumstances surrounding her death have remained a subject of debate online, with several bloggers and commentators discussing the case. (Guardian)
