The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

A statement on Thursday by the PSC’s spokesman, Torty Kalu, said the commission also approved the promotion of Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

The statement partly read, “The Police Service Commission has approved the elevation of one DIG, two AIGs and over 26,000 Inspectors following its third Plenary Meeting held today.

“The Commission, under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd), ratified the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

“Furthermore, Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. Their promotions followed a rigorous and merit-based process, including successful written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.”

In addition, he said the Commission approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II.

Kalu said, “In a landmark decision reflecting its commitment to career progression, the Commission also approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II. This promotion is based on their outstanding performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.”

Reeling out the profile of Adegboye, Kalu said before his promotion, Adegboye served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He has previously served in Operations, Training and Administration, and held command positions including Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide, the Force Intelligence Department and Edo State Command.

He has also served with United Nations missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor and Somalia.

Also, he said Aboki was, until his promotion, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command.

Idi served as the Acting Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. His previous postings include Divisional Police Officer in Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, postings at the Force CID Abuja, Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe and Kosoboso, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force, Ikorodu, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1, Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and merit-based promotions. He urged the officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and service.

He also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, led by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), for its role in the examination and interview processes.

In December 2025, the PSC approved the promotion of 774 senior police officers to higher ranks. (The PUNCH, excluding headline)
