The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a man in Gombi Local Government Area of the state.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje.

According to the police, the suspect is the younger brother of the deceased and was arrested following credible intelligence.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has recorded another major operational breakthrough in its sustained fight against violent crimes, particularly culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms,” the statement read.

The police said operatives attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with professional hunters, carried out the arrest.

It identified the suspect as Abubakar Sadiq, 40, of Boga Village in Gombi Local Government Area, and said he was arrested in connection with the killing of his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Boga, which occurred on January 20, 2026.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed committing the crime, along with five others,” the command said.

The police added that the suspect led operatives to the recovery of weapons allegedly used in committing the offence.

“He led the police to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle used in committing the crime and twenty-four rounds of live ammunition,” the statement said.

The suspect was also said to have mentioned two accomplices, identified as Jalo Hamiyu, 35, and Umar Baba, 41, both residents of Fotta Village in Gombi LGA.

According to the police, a joint team of operatives, hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force later moved to the suspects’ hideouts.

“Upon sighting police operatives, they opened fire to scare the operatives and escape arrest, which led to a gun duel that resulted in the neutralisation of the two suspects,” the statement added.

Additional exhibits recovered at the scene included “one locally made single-barrel rifle and one Dane gun.”

The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the criminal network.

It added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

“The suspect(s) will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement said. (The PUNCH)
