Anambra State adds 15 practical subjects to equip students with vocational skills and entrepreneurial capacity for future self-reliance.

The Anambra State Government has announced the introduction of 15 entrepreneurial subjects into the state’s Junior Secondary School (JSS) curriculum, in a move aimed at equipping students with practical skills and reducing dependence on white-collar jobs.

The wife of the governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, disclosed this in a social media post, where she praised the state government’s commitment to education and human capital development.

She said the initiative is designed to empower students to become solution providers rather than job seekers in an increasingly skills-driven global economy.

“Our administration recently introduced 15 new entrepreneurial subjects into the state’s Junior Secondary School (JSS) Curriculum.

“In today’s fast-changing world where skills have also become a major driver of human capital demand, we want to ensure that every school child in Anambra State is provided the best opportunity to not just learn the best skills, but to become solution providers and succeed in them,” she said.

Dr. Soludo explained that the policy aligns with the state’s broader vision of preparing children for the future, noting that the government has made education totally free from primary to senior secondary levels, eliminating hidden financial burdens on parents.

“Here in Anambra State, our administration is always very intentional about the kind of future we wish to prepare every child for. With our totally free education policy now fully in place in both primary and secondary schools, we are very confident that these investments will bear greater long-term results for our dear state,” she added.

She stressed that education is a fundamental right and must be prioritised, adding that inclusive and equitable education requires collective responsibility beyond government alone.

“Achieving inclusive, equitable, and quality education isn’t just the responsibility of the government alone. Everyone can make a change.

“In Anambra, we see education beyond the school walls, because a society that aims to grow must build its foundation and future deep in education,” she said.

According to her, the newly introduced subjects include solar installation, garment making, GSM repairs, agriculture and processing, plumbing, tiling, POP installation and event management, bakery, hairstyling, make-up, interior design, CCTV/intercom installation, digital literacy, information technology and robotics.
