Residents of Rex Lawson community in Borikiri, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, are still counting their losses following an attack that left over 20 cars and five houses destroyed.

Many of the victims have accused men of the police anti-cultism department of being behind the attack.

They alleged that the policemen came on retaliation after one of them was shot by unknown men.

The police, however, have said that its men were only caught in crossfire during a clash between rival cult groups.

The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, spoke to Channels Television.

“Members of the islanders were attacking innocent people, themselves and their rival cult groups.

“So, while that was going on, our men were drafted to that area and they swiftly responded to the distress call.

“Unfortunately, on sighting the police, they shot one of our men and even took his corpse. If not for the gallantry of our men, they would have taken his corpse away,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have set up an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter. (Channels TV)
