Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has renewed its commitment to the Nigerian project, showcasing its Corporate Social Responsibilities aimed at making life comfortable for Nigerians.

The General Manager, External Relations, Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke made the declaration on Tuesday, when the management team of News Express, Nigeria’s leading online daily newspaper, led by its Publisher, Isaac Umunna, paid him a courtesy visit in Lagos.

Dr. Eresia-Eke said that the company’s numerous CSR projects are hinged on its passion to develop the Nigeria project.

“We are proud of what we are doing at NLNG. For us, social business is serious business that is why we take our CSR projects very serious,” he said.

Apart from the Nigeria Prize for Literature, a CSR project sponsored by NLNG and designed to reward writers in the country, Dr. Eresia-Eke said there are many projects his organisation has embarked on to provide a better society for Nigerians.

According to him, the projects include Bonny vocation centre, aimed at training people on all trade to become better people in the society; and Bonny electricity project, where constant supply of electricity is made available to Bonny community up to the basic consumption, at no cost to the users. Others are the construction of the Bonny/Burda road, estimated to cost about N60 billion and the development of the Bonny community, which has been tagged the Dubai of the future. The project is a 25-year- plan intended to transform Bonny Kingdom, an island in Rivers State to a replica of Dubai.

The former Rivers State Commissioner for Information averred that Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company sees its CSR initiative as serious project not only because of the need to develop the community it operates in but the need to affect humanity.

Dr. Eresia-Eke lauded the News Express online group for its leading role and contribution to information dissemination and exclusive reportage in the online/new media platform, which he described as “the future of journalism.”

On his part, Umunna, an international award-winning journalist, said: “NLNG is the nation's pride and jewel, but we expect more. I want to use this medium to advise the National Assembly to avoid plans to amend the NLNG Act. It will attract heavy fine internationally, and will shake the economy. NLNG is our cash-cow; so let's think of other ways to raise money and leave NLNG the way it is, because it’s bringing result.”

On what makes News Express tick, Umunna said: "We are driven by the fact that a lot of people depend on us for news and information. Because of that, we ensure as a policy what we publish is truth and if we are misled to publish any false story we apologise."
