A former Special Adviser to former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on Parks and Markets, Chief Nwobu Alor, has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to mobilise economic and financial giants in Nigeria to proffer ways through which the nation can wriggle out of the current economic downturn.

Speaking during the occasion of his installation as “Ikenga Ndigbo” of Nnobi kingdom by the Igwe in council at the fourth Ofala festival of HRH, Igwe Muodum Obi of Nnobi, the chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) observed that the current economic recession had been in existence even before Buhari took over the mantle of leadership.

He posited that though the recession crack had been there before now, it went unnoticed because of the expertise displayed by those who managed the economy at that time.

On the plans by the Federal Government to sell off Nigeria’s national assets, Alor said: “I don’t support sale of our national assets. He explains that the asset is not owned by one person. I am of the opinion as I have always postulated that one of the ways to wriggle out of this economic recession is to mobilise economic and financial wizards that are in abundance in this country to find a sustainable solution to our economic quagmire.”

In his words; “If the former government sold our assets, what could we have to sell now? If the present government sells now, what will the future government have to sell if they are confronted by the same economic situation? Keep our assets intact and apply economic solutions to our economic problems.”

He however, said that though the situation is critical, President Buhari is a strong willed person that has the best of intentions for the country but has faulty methods of realising those intentions.

Alor, while calling on the Federal Government to constitute a statutory council of chiefs with specific functions as may be provided in the enabling law urged traditional rulers as agents of peace to continue in that stride adding that without peace, all efforts to develop any sector of the economy will be in vain.

He also commended the traditional ruler of Nnobi for attracting good network of roads in his community through a concentrated effort.
