Community leaders, victims and stakeholders in Plateau State have called on the government to urgently address the growing conflicts in the region, stressing the need for justice, accountability and unity.

The call was made yesterday at News Central?s Middle Belt Town Hall in Jos, where stakeholders deliberated on pressing issues affecting the region, with a focus on conflict resolution and peace-building.

The town hall, themed, ?One Middle Belt, One Voice: From Conflict to Action and Justice,? brought together security personnel, government agencies and conflict victims.

President of the Tiv Professionals Group, cautioned against land disputes and displacement of communities, saying, ?No group has the right to claim land or livelihoods at the expense of others.?

He said peaceful coexistence must remain central in resolving the crisis.

Manneseh Zugumtun, a victim from Mantu district, accused the Fulani community of fuelling unrest in Mangu and appealed for quick government?s intervention to prevent further bloodshed. Also speaking, the General Overseer of EBOMI Ministry and a Fulani, Prophet Isa El-Buba, urged equal treatment of offenders regardless of their ethnic background. ?Killers should be held accountable regardless of their tribe or ethnicity,? he said, stressing that fairness in justice is the only way to ensure lasting peace.

Meanwhile, Managing Director, News Central, Kayode Akintemi, in his address, called on victims and communities to remain committed to the pursuit of peace, while urging security agencies to secure the lives and properties of citizens in the region, regardless of ethnicity and region. (Daily Sun)
