MTN Nigeria has announced a scheduled network maintenance exercise that will temporarily disrupt services across parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano states this weekend.

According to the telecom operator, the activity is part of efforts to permanently restore a previously damaged fiber infrastructure along the AFCOT?Bawo Village route in Adamawa State.

The upgrade will involve cutting over traffic to a newly installed fiber span, a move the company said is necessary to eliminate recurrent damage and strengthen overall network stability.

The maintenance, scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2025, will run from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., with service interruptions expected during the two-hour window. MTN disclosed that the downtime will affect 101 sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs), covering 2G, 3G, 4G, and enterprise services.

The affected areas include Nasarawa LGA in Kano State; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North LGAs in Adamawa State; as well as Askira/Uba and Shani LGAs in Borno State.

The company explained that the route?s linear and unprotected nature makes temporary downtime unavoidable. The work will be carried out during daylight hours for security reasons.

?MTN regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding of its valued customers as it works to improve service quality and reliability,? the statement read.

The move reflects the operator?s ongoing network investment push aimed at strengthening service resilience in Nigeria?s Northeast, a region often challenged by both infrastructure fragility and security concerns. (BusinessDay)
