Delicious Orie has sensationally called time on his boxing career just weeks after winning his professional debut.

Orie was Team GB's super-heavyweight representative at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he succumbed to a robbery defeat, which left him utterly dejected.

Despite his loss, the 27-year-old was tipped to make a real splash in the paid ranks, and had faced comparisons to heavyweight stalwart Anthony Joshua.

He recently signed a lucrative deal with promoter Frank Warren, with hope to building his blossoming career.

And Orie won in a tough debut outpointing Milos Veletic in April, where he was unable to put on his best display.

Despite his struggles, it was expected he would continue to build his skills, having turned down a career with the WWE to focus on boxing.

But he has incredibly, in truly rare fashion, decided to hang up his gloves after just one appearance as a pro.

He wrote a statement on Instagram, which read: "After much reflection, I have decided to hang up my gloves and retire from boxing to follow up on my degree and enter the corporate world.

"This sport has given me so much ? incredible memories, unforgettable experiences travelling the world and many opportunities to represent my country at the biggest stages in the world. Forever grateful for the journey.

"Over time, I?ve come to recognise that the same fire and love I once had for boxing has gradually faded.

"As I?ve grown, I?ve come to value clarity and honesty with myself above all. I hoped that turning professional would reignite the passion, but the truth has become clear: it hasn?t.

"Every fighter knows you need a deep love for the craft to reach the top ? and without it, there?s no path forward.

"Out of respect for the sport and for myself, it?s time to step away with honesty."

Orie incredibly will no longer look to use his bright talent, making the brave step to move on.

The Russia-born heavyweight will instead use his degree, and put his passions elsewhere.

Orie went on to thank his promoter Warren alongside everyone at his Steel City gym in Sheffield.

The post attracted huge attention including from Frazer Clarke, who wrote: "I feel I?m writing this message too late brother but if you ever need or needed to speak to anyone you have my number.

"I have no doubt no matter whatever you choose to do in your life you?ll be successful.

"From the first time I met and spoke to you, to then training with you, its been clear your work rate and your attitude to learning and competing is second to none!

"I hope you're okay and wish you all the best. If you need me I'm one call away champ."

Team GB also saluted the young star, adding: "Wishing you all the best for the future."

Orie's retirement presents a sad day for British boxing, with such high hopes for his future. (Talk Sport)
