Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, Nda Baba Mohammed, from Agaie Local Government Area, for being in possession of suspected counterfeit CFA currency at the Hajj Camp, Tudun-Fulani, in Bosso LGA of Niger State.

The arrest, which took place on 18 May 2025 at about 11:45 a.m., followed credible intelligence indicating the activities of a syndicate allegedly specialising in duping unsuspecting Hajj pilgrims with fake foreign currency.

According to a press statement issued and made available to journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Bosso Division and found in possession of forty thousand CFA francs suspected to be counterfeit.

The statement said, ?During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen the currency from the residence of a certain Mohammed in Kwara State while working for him as a farm hand.?

SP Abiodun disclosed that the suspect is in custody as investigations continue to trace the origin of the counterfeit currency. He added that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful Hajj operation and warned criminal elements to stay away from all pilgrimage-related activities in the state. (Nigerian Tribune)
