Among the victims are a 100-year-old blind woman whose building was completely damaged and a 95-year-old woman, Mrs. Julianah Ademilua, who said she had been homeless since Saturday.

They urged the government to consider their ages and come to their aid promptly.

In Ekiti, the rainstorm affected over 100 private residential buildings, police staff quarters, religious centres, and lock up shops, spread across Iyin, Ifaki and Usi Ekiti communities.

Most affected in Osun was infrastructure in Egbedore and Ilesa East local government areas of the state.

Sunday?s rainstorm in Osun State damaged electric poles, private residences, and business premises.

Roofing sheets of houses and shops were also blown off.

That Ekiti rainstorm comes two weeks after a similar one wreaked havoc to no fewer than 50 houses in communities including Ipoti, Ejiyan, Owatedo and Odo Owa Ekiti in the Ijero Local Government Area.

The Olufaki of Ifaki Ekiti, Oba Adegbenro Falore, who expressed grief over the level of wreckage experienced in his town, said most affected in his community were aged and poor citizens, who are financially incapacitated.

Giving details of the assessment done by the command after the incident, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Monday, the Osun NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, on behalf of the commandant, said electricity poles, private houses and business premises were affected by the rainstorm in the two local government areas.

The statement read, ?The recent heavy rainfall in Osun State resulted in the destruction of electricity poles and significant damage to several houses and shops in Ilesa East and Egbedore local government areas.

?The command evaluated the damage done at Ilesa East and the report indicates that about six concrete poles fell along University Road in Ilesa.

?Similarly, in Egbedore Local Government Area at Aje Market, Eesa Tuntun Community, Ejemu Compound, and Ajetunmobi road in Ido-Osun, some electricity poles fell, and roofing sheets of houses and shops were also damaged.?

In his admonition to the residents, Sotiyo enjoined them to avoid walking or driving near fallen electricity poles or high-tension lines.

He said the command had contacted the electricity distribution company in the state to fix the damaged poles.

He restated NSCDC?s commitment to ensuring public safety, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters.

During an on-the-spot assessment, on Monday, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, assured the victims that the government would not abandon them.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, regretted how citizens were subjected to harrowing experiences of homelessness due to the incident in some parts of the state.

He assured that the government would provide relief materials to the victims to rebuild their damaged structures.

Oyebanji also spoke to landlords on the need for home owners to plant trees which could help break the impact of the coming storm.

Oyebanji said, ?We are not always happy when this kind of incident happens, because many will be rendered homeless and those affected will be seeking emergency financial assistance, which might be traumatizing in most cases.

?This is the reason we have been preaching on local radio for our people to brace up for the coming rainy season by making sure they look after their shelters, this is very important.

?We have always been standing by you and we will do the same under this circumstance. We will provide relief materials to support you in rebuilding your buildings. We assure you that we won?t abandon you to suffer.?

Oyebanji assured the victims that the staff of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency will visit the communities to undertake thorough enumeration of the damaged structures and landlords affected to guide the government in its intervention.

The Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Adeniyi Ajakaye, who expressed sadness over the calamity, applauded the government for the quick response, describing this as highly commendable and a way of exhibiting leadership that will assuage the feelings of the distraught victims.

The monarch said, ?I called around 9pm on Sunday to tell the government about this happening and you are here early today. This further showed that the government of Biodun Oyebanji recognizes and respects the welfare of the people and we are happy that you have promised to help the victims, we are grateful about this.?
