A wave of fear has gripped Udu Local Government Area in Delta State following the discovery of the bodies of two women who were allegedly killed for ritual purposes.

According to reports, Mrs. Elizabeth Onitcha, a 75-year-old woman from Ujevwu Community, went missing on Saturday, March 1, 2025, after visiting her farm. A search party was organized by the community, led by the President General, Mr. Abel Onomwakpokpo, and her lifeless body was found the next day with some body parts removed.

A report was made at the Ovwian Police Station, and the remains were deposited at the mortuary. Suspicion initially fell on neighboring Obubu Community, with whom Ujevwu had a long-standing land dispute.

However, in a shocking twist, another aged woman from Obubu Community was found dead on Monday, March 3, 2025, with similar injuries and body parts removed. This discovery led Udu Council Chairman, Hon. Vincent Oyibode, to intervene and convene an emergency meeting with both communities.

Chairman Oyibode, who visited the scene of the second crime, concluded that the killings bear the hallmarks of ritual killings. He ordered the corpse to be taken to the mortuary and issued a directive warning the women in nearby communities to avoid going to their farms until further notice.

The Incidents have sent shockwaves through the communities, and residents are calling for urgent action to apprehend the perpetrators and bring an end to the gruesome killings. (Delta State News Bulletin)
