Following the recent attack on the people of Amegu Nkalaha Community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Sunday by suspected hoodlums, the police arrested one of the suspects linked to the attack.

This was disclosed in a press statement released by Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, and obtained by Channels Television on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Ukandu, the Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, in a swift response, dispatched the tactical team of the command to the community with the mandate to fish out the perpetrators.

He said that during the operation, one of the suspects while fleeing the community was apprehended with the assistance of community members from Nkalaha and Eha-Amafu and handed over to Isi-?z? Police Division.

He added that upon interrogation, the suspect provided useful information about others involved in the attack, which led the operatives of the command to storm the hideout of the hoodlums responsible for the attack.

The operatives raided the criminal hideout, as other assailants fled the scene, and items recovered include: three locally made single-barreled guns, one police uniform, a pair of jungle boots, a pair of army camouflage shorts, and a pair of combat trousers.

Ukandu noted that the command is actively pursuing other fleeing suspects, as investigation continues. He also called on anyone with useful information that might lead to the arrest of other suspects to come forward.

While encouraging residents of Ebonyi State to dispel rumours of insecurity and go about their lawful activities, reiterating that the police is committed to protection of lives and property, reassuring that the police will resolve the situation and apprehend the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, reports from the community say that at least 15 dead bodies have recovered from the scene of the incident, while many are still missing. (Channels TV)
