The management of Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State, has warned newly admitted students against the use of Android phones on campus.

It also cautioned against indecent dressing, rioting, cultism, truancy, and other social vices within the school environment, stating that such actions could lead to outright expulsion.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Haruna Kuje, who issued the warning at the 20th matriculation ceremony on Thursday, urged new students to pay their school fees promptly to avoid being barred from examination halls.

Additionally, he advised students to familiarise themselves with the university?s vision, mission, motto, symbols, and core values, including the anthem, laws, and dress code, stressing that ignorance would not be an excuse.

The VC also introduced the students to the university?s administrative structure, highlighting the various support channels available for addressing their concerns.

He reminded them that Bingham University is a faith-based institution, and as such, their behaviour, speech, and actions should reflect Christ, who is the foundation of both the university and humanity.

?We are matriculating a total of 1,869 students across 15 Faculties and 54 Departments, namely: Administration ? 180; Allied Health Science ? 454; Architecture ? 81; Arts ? 22; Basic Medical Science ? 183; Clinical Science ? 102; Communication & Media Studies ? 107.

?Others are: Computing ? 366; Education ? 20; Environmental Science ? 13; Law ? 56; Pharmaceutical Science ? 89; Science & Technology ? 42; and Social Sciences ? 154. By taking this oath, you have formally joined a community of men and women seeking knowledge in the fear of Christ and aspiring to be change agents in the marketplace,? he said.

Prof. Kuje congratulated the new students, particularly those in Pharmaceutical Sciences, who will graduate as Doctors of Pharmacy following the recent approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the conversion of the Bachelor of Pharmacy to Doctor of Pharmacy programme, effective from the 2024/2025 session. ?That means you are the first set that will be graduating with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree,? he added.

The VC also outlined the responsibilities and obligations of the school management to the students, assuring them that the university would continue to provide guidance, protection, mentorship, and an enabling learning environment to support their success.

Despite financial constraints, he said, the university is expanding hostel facilities, upgrading the library and ICT centre, and enhancing sports, recreational facilities, classrooms, and lecture halls to ensure a conducive learning environment. (Daily Sun)
