Do small actions count?

That was the question asked by the SABI Ecofusion team when last year, it announced the launch of its premier sustainability campaign moved by the dearth of knowledge on energy efficiency in Nigeria. The campaign which ran in January 2024 was designed to embed a culture of energy efficiency in Nigerians by providing for free, daily tips and resources to help people make a step change in how they use energy ? for the good of the environment while saving money.

Judging by the results, it is clear that small actions counted!

Thousands of people signed up to participate, with positive feedback from participants. Impressively, 88% of respondents rated the challenge with a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 5, indicating high satisfaction. Furthermore, 100% of participants expressed interest in repeating the challenge, reflecting its perceived value and impact. Additionally, over two hundred thousand people were reached with the message of sustainability and energy efficiency via a range of social media platforms. One of the participants had this to say: ?I would like to thank SABI Life for the educative and insightful environmental tips that was shared with us. I am really enlightened and learned a lot from the tips shared? and I have put into practice?

Buoyed by this success, the Sabi team recently kick-started the second edition of the SABI Lifestyle Challenge running from January 11 to February 9, 2025.

Speaking at the launch event, Engr. Odinakachi Umunna, an energy expert at Shell, and the founder of the SABI Lifestyle said: ?While we are encouraged by the results of the premier campaign, 2024 has shown that there is a greater need to improve the energy saving culture of Nigerians. The hike in both electricity and gas tariff has made meeting basic energy needs out of the reach of the average Nigerian. And many are yet to make sustainability a habit. These inspired us to come up with an even better campaign on energy efficiency.

Building on the lessons from 1.0, this edition will focus on deepening the impact by introducing new features like video explainers, a WhatsApp community and performance tracking?.

The SABI Lifestyle Energy Saving Challenge is a 30-day sustainability campaign where participants receive simple, practical and effective daily tips to reduce energy waste and lower electricity bills by 20 ? 30%. One call to action a day, for 30 days to get people into the habit of thinking about their environment in how they live their lives, while saving money at the same time.
