The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo has condemned the manner in which political appointments are given in Anambra State, saying that there is a gross imbalance in the quota.

He made the statement at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Obosi, Idemili Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, on the occasion of the first session of the 30^th synod of the Diocese of the Niger urging the government to be more democratic in the planning and execution of its programmes and policies.

He posited that the Anglican faithful in the state are shortchanged and marginalised from occupying sensitive position in government.

Nwokolo urged Governor Willie Obiano to work towards striking a balance and to adopt the principle of equity and fair play in politics in order to make every section have a sense of belonging.

He recalled that former President Goodluck Jonathan while on seat promised to immortalise the late literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe, at the primary school he attended at Ogidi, Idemili North LGA of the state, the contractor, to whom the project was awarded ended up with a shoddy job.

According to the Bishop, the structure has already developed cracks on the walls and is on the verge of collapse.

While describing the project as a disgrace to both the state and federal government, he appealed to the State Governor to expedite action to remedy the situation before the building collapses on school children.

In his response, Governor Obiano, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, said that funds have been approved for palliatives across the state adding that the measure was intended to touch lives.

He called on the people to pay their taxes regularly to enable government perform its duties and obligations even while donating N2 million to ensure the success of 2016 Synod.

Among top dignitaries at the occasion were former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, and wife Beatrice, former Secretary General of the Common Wealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, among others.
