The Convener of Ihe Abia, Ichie Dr. Emeka Okpara, has congratulated Hon. Elder Abraham Amah on his victory, and emergence as the Abia PDP Chairman after the keenly contested state congresses held on Sunday in Umuahia. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at his country home in Isuochi, Umunneochi, Abia North Senatorial zone, Okpara also used the opportunity to congratulate other elected officials of the party into the State Working Committee (SWC) and others at the local government and ward levels.

Okpara extolled the virtues of Hon. Amah as an intelligent, reliable, astute, tried and tested politician, and described his emergence as a round peg in a round hole capable of leading the Abia PDP at this auspicious time.

According to Okpara, ?The emergence of Hon. Abraham Amah as the new Chairman of Abia PDP is good omen and signals a new lease of life for Abia PDP following the lull experienced after the 2023 general election. All the members of the Abia PDP should rally round him to ensure that the party serves as a credible opposition to the government of the day to strengthen Abia's democracy. At this moment, the Abia PDP needs a strong-willed, confident, and courageous political technocrat like Hon. Amah to drive the party to a new and higher level to enable it play a crucial role in the development of Abia State."

Okpara called on the newly elected Chairman to immediately hit the ground running by reconciling members of the party who are aggrieved in one way or the other, starting from his fellow contestants, and members who left the PDP after the party's defeat at the 2023 guber election.

"I call on Hon. Amah to start his tenure as the chairman of the party by extending a good hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants, and bring them on board by harnessing their different ideas for a comprehensive overhaul of the party to accommodate all interests. The next step after that is to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party, especially those that left the party after the 2023 general election. You should understand the reason why many big wigs left the party and one of the first steps you should take is to work hard and bring back those big wigs and stop the drift that has continued until last month", Okpara said.

He called on the leaders, stakeholders, newly elected officials and the entire members of the Abia PDP to give Hon. Amah and his team all the support he needs to steer the ship of the party in Abia State.

Hon. Abraham Amah won the election by a landslide victory, and scored 1264 votes to defeat his closest rival who scored 359 votes. He has a rich political and social resume having served in different political capacities including serving as the pioneer state chairman of Abia ANPP. He also served as Political Adviser to two former governors of Abia State, governors Orji Uzor Kalu and Theodore Orji.
