Chief Goddy Uwazurike has described the life of late Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Ahaejiagamba as a life of commitment and service to his people.

In a heartfelt eulogy for the late Chief Dr. Iwuanyanwu, Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo, he was described as one of the most influential figures of his generation whose life was marked by resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to serving the Igbo people and Nigeria, leaving a legacy that will stand the test of time.

Born into the Igbo community, Iwuanyanwu pursued engineering at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) before the outbreak of the Biafra War interrupted his studies. He joined the Biafra Army Engineers, stationed near Umunakanu, and rose to the rank of major. This early demonstration of leadership foreshadowed the remarkable contributions he would go on to make in his career.

After the war, Iwuanyanwu completed his education and worked for the East Central State?s Road Construction Company, ECFC. In a bold move, he left his job to establish his own construction firm, despite discouragement from a colleague who doubted Nigerian-trained engineers. Undeterred, he launched Hardel and Enic, a company that quickly grew into a major success. Breaking into an industry traditionally dominated by Europeans, he exemplified courage and ingenuity.

Known for his ?never say die? attitude, Iwuanyanwu entered a prolific political career. Following the 1983 military coup, he became a champion of Igbo interests, founding Champion Newspapers and the Iwuanyanwu Nationwide Football Club. Though both ventures were financially demanding, they cemented his role as an advocate for the Igbo people in Nigeria.

His generosity knew no bounds, offering scholarships to students across the globe. When the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization, needed leadership following Prof. George Obiozor?s passing, Iwuanyanwu was chosen as President Ndigbo General. He led with vision, action, and a steadfast commitment to his people. His final mission involved a negotiation for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Biafra movement, after which his health took a turn for the worse.

?Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Ahaejiagamba, lived and died in service to Ndigbo,? Uwazurike wrote.

?His place in history is secured, his legacy cemented in gold. The mighty Iroko has fallen, but his impact endures in the lives of those he uplifted.?

As Nigeria mourns this remarkable leader, his influence lives on in the institutions, businesses, and lives he touched. ?Farewell, Ahaejiagamba,? Uwazurike concluded, ?the people whose lives you enriched will keep your legacy alive.?
