Chairperson of National Association of Widows, Orphans and Divorcees, Kano State Chapter, Hajiya Altine Abdullahi, has noted that the decision by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to remove subsidy “at a time when Nigerians are undergoing the worst form of hardship ever has clearly shown that the President is insensitive to the plight of ordinary Nigerians who voted him into power.”

Speaking to the press recently, Hajiya Abdullahi explained that even in a dream, she had never thought that President Muhammadu Buhari, “a man that hundreds of the Nigerians died for while celebrating his victory,” would in less than one year in office increase the pump price of petroleum from N86 to N145 per litre without even the approval of the National Assembly who are representatives of various segments of the society. This is dictatorial and it should be resisted, Hajiya Altine Abdullahi said.

She said urged President Buhari to remember that Nigerians did not only insist, since 2013, that he was their choice; the ordinary masses contributed money for him to fund his campaign.

She recalled that a 92-year-old woman in Koko, Kebbi state, donated her saving of about N3 million for Buhari’s campaign “and in less than one year, what are we getting, high rocket inflation, poor electricity supply, unemployment, poor water supply and above all removal of petroleum subsidy which will amount to another unprecedented level of inflation.”

She said: “We will not take this from a president that we believe was elected by our votes in the past PDP was in office for 16 years through massive rigging and electoral fraud, but this government, even the international community, can testify that he actually won free fare and in an acceptable contest; that is why Nigerian women who are mothers and have the power to tell those in authority to reverse whatever decision they take, which is very punitive, will continue to tell Buhari that he is not the Buhari they used to know and they will not accept the recent removal of petroleum subsidy. They will continue to participate in any demonstration that will force government to reverse its decision.” (Blueprint)
