The rising cost of living, exacerbated by global inflation following the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, has made certain countries and cities significantly more expensive to reside in.

African countries haven’t been immune to the impact of rising inflation, which has affected the income of many citizens. Recently, nations like Kenya and Nigeria have experienced waves of protests over the increasing cost of living, with citizens urging their governments to take action.

However, in several African countries, the cost of living is notably lower than in other regions, making it more affordable to sustain a certain quality of life. This affordability not only offers significant financial advantages but also acts as a catalyst for development and economic growth.

A low cost of living fosters investment by making it more affordable to start businesses, attract foreign direct investment, and support local companies and small enterprises.

The Number of 2024 Mid-Year Cost of Living Report reveals a contrasting trend: despite widespread economic challenges, many African cities continue to be among the most affordable in the world.
