Chy Whyte is a top South Africa-based gospel artiste. She hails from Owerri in Imo State of Nigeria. The mother of three boys was in Lagos recently in company of her husband cum manager, Davies William and she spoke to Transport & Business Express about her kind of automobile.

“I am using a white coloured Toyota Camry at the moment and it’s serving me well. You know the roads in South Africa are motor able so I have not really had much problem with the sedan since I purchased it about a year ago. The fact is that most of the time I travel out so I seldom use it. Now I am here in Nigeria and I will be here for another four days or so that means the car won’t be in use during this period. Last month, I was in Ghana for a three-day show. Next week I have been invited to perform in Germany. So you can see that I seldom use the ride. Perhaps that is why it does not give me stress. But I think the main reason is because there are good roads in South Africa where I reside with my family,” said the amiable songbird whose latest album,Songs of Victory, is currently enjoying generous air play around the world including Nigeria.

Asked why she chose to acquire a Toyota Camry in the midst of many other brands in the market, Chy Whyte said, “At the risk of sounding like a brand ambassador to Toyota Company, I want to say that Camry is the best of Japanese’s wonders and it is best suited for ladies. Its configuration is feminine. Next time you see a Toyota Camry, take a closer look at it and you will understand what I mean.”

Does that mean she would not want to change the car or add any other brand to her garage? Hear her: “Far from that. I do not really like to use more than one car at a time. I don’t have the need for such luxury. But I must confess that I am already thinking of a change, perhaps to upgrade. If I drop my Camry today, I’ll go for Range Rover Sport. And if I want to go higher, well, I can move up to a Hummer.”

How does it feel seeing a lady behind the wheels of a Hummer? “That’s not a big deal. Many ladies ride in Hummer Jeeps in South Africa and it feels good to see that happen,” said Chy Whyte who said she started singing when she was in the church choir as a young girl.

Unlike most women, if she is going on a ride with her husband, Chy Whyte prefers to handle the steering, not that she does not trust her husband’s driving ability but

“Men must not always be in control, must they?” she queried with a broad smile.

And who takes the car to the mechanic’s when it requires servicing – She or her husband? “It depends on who is free at the particular time. There is no fast rule about who takes the car for servicing. If I’m available, I take it and if my husband is the one available, he does same,” she said.
