As part of activities to mark his first anniversary in office, which coincided with democracy day celebrations, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in a statewide address threatened to deal with those planning to brew trouble in kano state.

“Anybody found guilty of these offences will face the full wrath of the law, the government is fully aware of recent activities of the enemies of the state who will stop at nothing to ferment crises using thugs to attack innocent citizens, especially in the metropolis.

“We are by this medium warning them to stay clear of our peaceful state or else the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” he said.

While applauding the President Bola Tinubu administration for upholding the independence of judiciary especially on election matters, the governor also reeled out some of his government’s achievements so far.

“In order to fulfill our campaign promises, this administration sponsored and conducted the mass wedding of 1,800 couples provided with furniture, dowry and capital to invest in small and medium enterprises. Over N2.8 billion was spent on this.

“Rice and other assorted grains were distributed to the vulnerable groups in the state, palliative given free of charge cost N7 billion, let me say the Kano State Government has spent N2.9 billion for students NECO and UTME exams. If I may ask, are all these not human capital developments? Where else than in Kano do you find such feat?”

The Kwankwasiya movement of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), under whose umbrella the governor contested the 2023 elections, also lined up activities to mark Abba Kabir Yusuf’s 1st anniversary in office.

Some of the organisers of the events claimed that the celebrations are informed by Governor Abba’s remarkable achievements in one year.

Tijjani Gandu, the Chairman of Governor Abbas one year Anniversary Committee applauds the governor’s achievement Abba has achieved much more than his predecessors in so short a time he built and rehabilitated several roads, hospitals and schools,” he said.

The events were attended by supporters of the Kwankwasiya movement, musicians and actors from the Kano-based Hausa movie industry, Kannywood.

However, behind the pomp and pageantry of the anniversary is the tense political atmosphere in the state, occasioned by the dethronement of Aminu Ado Bayero along with four other emirs and the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as Emir of Kano by the Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
