Outrage has continued to greet the massacre, on Monday by Fulani herdsmen, of innocent citizens of Ukpabi Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani council of Enugu State. This is even as the Principal Partner of a Lagos law firm announced a planned suit against the Federal Government for failing to protect victims of the dastardly attack.

Venting his anger on Facebook, ECULAW Principal Partner Emeka Ugwuonye said: “THIS HAS GOTTEN TO A POINT WHERE DELAY OF ACTION CANNOT BE AN OPTION.

“I am directing every lawyer in ECULAW. We shall be filing a lawsuit against the Federal Government of Nigeria for the massacre that occurred in Enugu. It was the direct result of failure of the government to protect the people.

“The people surrendered their right to bear arms and to organise a militia to the Government of Nigeria on the promise that the Government shall protect the people from this kind of organised attack. But the government failed.

“We shall sue the government and we shall raise serious existential issues. The people of Enugu, like the Agatu people, now face systemic existential threat. God forbid that I will fold my hands and my brains and do nothing about it.

“Our lawyers are now mobilised to commenced preparations for legal action against Nigerian Government.”

Others who took to their Facebook profiles to express their disappointment and demand action from President Muhammadu Buahri include Prof. Okey Ndibe, communication expert Chris Adetayo and entrepreneur cum commentator on national issues, Afam B. C. Nnaji.

Okey Ndibe: President Buhari must order security agencies, without delay, to protect Nigerians from a plague spreading through their country. Life in Nigeria is insufferable enough without herdsmen armed with machine guns descending on communities in an orgy of indiscriminate killing and maiming. If the herdsmen’s homicidal excesses are not reined in, and fast, nobody can foretell the cost to Nigeria when (not if) besieged communities begin to adopt violent self-help methods to safeguard themselves. Enough is bloody enough!

Chris Adetayo: Mr President, please say something. Citizens cannot be getting killed and maimed in their beds with no reaction of any sort from you. It was this eloquent silence that bothered on callousness that turned me and many others against Goodluck Jonathan. Please learn from history. Let it not be said that under your watch, we defeated Boko Haram but birthed a new, even more dangerous monster. Say something. Do something. Make a move. NOW!

Afam B. C. Nnaji: Will Fulani herdsmen be the reason for a second civil war in Nigeria?

The people protecting and arming these guys must understand the fact that a second civil war will ensure they won’t be allowed to get into the regions and states they are allowed to get into today talk less of any talk about grazing bill.

Make everybody open their eyes because there will always be consequences for actions especially those that lead to the deaths of innocent people.
