Gunmen suspected to be cultists have on Saturday night invaded Olokuma community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, abducting three police informants in the community.

The late night attack is suspected to be a reprisal by the cultists following the Rivers State Police Command onslaught against cultism and other violent crimes in the state, putting the cultists in disarray as most of their kingpins have either been killed or arrested.

While the lifeless body of one of the victims was found within the community hours after abduction, the fate of the remaining two is still unknown, although efforts are in top gear to rescue them.

DAILY INDEPENDENT Correspondent learnt that the latest attack was aimed at instilling fear into the hearts of other informants and to discourage residents and natives from cooperating with the Police and other security agents in areas of providing intelligence and information.

Although the Rivers State Police Command is yet to confirm the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko when contacted, promised to verify and revert to our correspondent, but had yet to do so, as of press time.

Meanwhile the Civil Military Police Paramilitary Relations(CIMPARR) has condemned the killing and abduction of the informants.

Comrade Green Isaac, the Coordinator of the group in a brief statement, urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to redeem his N100 million bounty placed on killed David Gift, aka 2baba.

Isaac said, “I am calling on the Governor of Rivers State to Siminalayi Fubara to redeem the N100 million pledge bounty he placed on the head of David Gift aka 2Baba who has been brought down, the Governor should please redeem the pledge. It is about 60 days since 2Baba was brought down and nothing has happened.

“This pledge has become necessary following reports that armed gangs are now targeting informants who may have been very useful in giving Police useful information to help them work in the community, helping the Police to work and do their job very well.

“When a bounty like this is placed and it is not redeemed, it becomes an issue. We are pleading with the Governor to release the sum.”

Recall that 2baba, a dreaded cultist was killed on February 17, 2024 during a raid of his hideout at Idu-Ekpeye community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State by a combined security team, after he killed the former Ahoada East DPO, SP Bako Angbashim on September 8, 2023.
