The leadership of Obodo Community in Delta State’s Warri South Local Government Area has firmly rejected assertions made by the neighboring Aja-Osolo Community regarding the ownership of the Obodo flowstation within the Obodo oil field operated by Conoil Producing Limited.

In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of the oil company, titled “Reaffirmation of Ownership of Obodo Flow station and Surrounding Land in OML 150,” representatives of Obodo Community, including Chairman Myke Ogi and Secretary TsolaRewane of the Central Working Committee, dismissed Aja-Osolo Community’s claims as driven by greed and unwarranted desires for ownership.

The Obodo Community emphasised that the assertions made by Aja-Osolo Community are false and misleading, and they are resolute in their stance that the ownership of the Obodo flowstation rightfully belongs to them.

They pointed out that they have obtained two court judgments validating their ownership, and they are determined not to allow any encroachment on what rightfully belongs to them.

Obodo Community, represented by Chief E.E. Sillo, obtained a favorable judgement (Suit No.: W/20/69) against SAFRAP Nigeria Ltd, now Conoil Producing Nigeria Ltd, granting them the authority to claim damages, rent, and other benefits.

Additionally, in a separate ruling (Suit No.: W/39/2019), Obodo Community was declared the rightful owners of the Obodo flowstation and the land by the court. Consequently, they are entitled to rights such as Right of Occupancy, Royalties, and Compensations.

Due to these court victories, Obodo Community strongly advises Conoil to engage exclusively with them regarding matters concerning the ownership of the Obodo oilfield and flowstation as the legitimate host community.

They urge Conoil to recognise them as the rightful owners and host community, and to instruct their subcontractors to reject any requests from other communities that suggest otherwise.

The communication emphasized the importance of adhering to court rulings concerning the Aja-Osolo Community and emphasized the repercussions of non-compliance.

It cautioned against making any payments to the community in question, stating that such actions would be strongly opposed, hindering any work in the area.

The letter was distributed to various recipients, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and the Sector Commander of Section 3 at David Ejoor Barracks in Effurum. (Sunday Independent)
