The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has approved the revocation of 165 plots of land in the serviced Districts of the Federal Capital City over non-development.

The Director of Information and Communication, in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Muhammad Hazat Sule made this known.

The notice for the revocation as compiled by the Land Department was approved by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, who revoked the plots due to continuous contravention of the terms of agreement as encapsulated in the 1978 Land Use Act.

The revoked plots belong to individuals and corporate organizations, who have continually failed to keep to the terms of agreement as contained in Section 28(5) (a) & (b) of the Land Use Act.

The one hundred and sixty-five (165) plots are situated within some districts in the FCC namely: Central Business District, Maitama (A05); Maitama (A06); Wuse II (A08); Gudu (B01) and Wuye (B03).

Others are Jabi (B04); Utako (B05); Katampe Extension (B19); Idu Industrial Area (C16) and Asokoro (A04) Districts respectively.

The revocation of the affected plots was approved by the Minister following the violation of the terms of Rights of Occupancy.

Accordingly, “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978 revoked the affected titles for continued contravention of the terms of development of the Right of Occupancy to wit non-development,” Sule said.

Among those affected are: Ex-governors/Senators Liyel Imoke and Joshua Dariye. Imoke was Cross River State Governor while Dariye was served in Plateau State.

Another top shot on the list is former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Kanu Agabi (SAN).

Also revoked are properties allocated now deceased former public office holders, such as: the late Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) the late Ufot Joseph Ekaette and the late publisher of Leadership newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah.

Many companies have also lost their landed properties. These include: Trade Bank; Wema Bank; Julius Berger and Pearl & Diamond Properties Limited, among others.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, on assumption of office, hinted that owners of undeveloped plots and those who ran foul of the city’s Land Use Act, would forfeit ownerships of such land.

Yesterday’s statement by FCT Permanent Secretary Olushade Adeshola gave effect to the minister’s warning. (Pieced together from reports by The Nation and The Guardian)
