The Abia State Government has strongly condemned the alleged invasion, in the wee hours of Tuesday, of the residence of the state Commissioner for Works, Chief Eziuche Ubani, by a combined team of personnel from the Department of the State Security (DSS) and the Army.

It has demanded for an unreserved apology from the security agencies involved in the act, saying that “government feels embarrassed by the action” which brazenly trampled on the rights of the former lawmaker as a citizen of Nigeria.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha, who made government’s position known, also said that government demands explanation from the security agencies on why they invaded the residence of Ubani in the unholy hours of the morning.

Iwuoha who paid an unscheduled visit to Ubani on hearing about the alleged invasion described him as “peace-loving,” stressing that “government feels concerned and embarrassed that this sort of thing is happening to an official of the state government.”

The commissioner used the forum to inform the Federal Government that Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has nothing to do with the protests embarked by the Movement for the Actualistion of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He accused the opposition in the state of sponsoring these groups to destabilise the peace of the state.

According to him, “Ikpeazu believes in the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria and supports the leadership of the country.”

“Our suspicion is that some disgruntled elements, especially the opposition parties, are the ones responsible for the actions of these young people who have been on the streets demonstrating for the Republic of Biafra because the leaders of the opposition parties see them as veritable tools they can use to destabilise the state,” Iwuoha added.

He, therefore, called on those funding disturbances in the state to stop their nefarious activities forthwith as government would not condone violence in any guise.
