The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has charged security agencies in the country to collaborate to secure the lives and property of Nigerians.

Arase gave the charge at the second Security and Justice Sector Institution and Information Coordination meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

Arase was represented by Mr. Danazumi Doma, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, in charge of Force Criminal Investigations Department, FCID.

He said that the meeting was aimed at security agencies strategising and reviewing their operational activities from time to time.

“The essence of the meeting is for the services and the justice sector to rub minds, synergise together so that this country and Nigerians will be safe and secure.”

He charged the participants to be dedicated and contribute meaningfully to the discussion.

Earlier, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hashimu Argungu, Department of Training and Development, said that the meeting was to further deepen the training.

Argungu represented by AIG. Olufemi Adenaike urged security agencies to sustain the collaboration to engender effective inter-agency collaboration.

“May I reiterate the position of the Nigeria Police Force that this initiative is a laudable one and it should be sustained by all agencies to engender effective inter-agency collaboration.” The meeting continued behind closed doors after the opening ceremony.

Stakeholders at the meeting include, representatives of the Nigeria Army, Police, Nigeria Prison Service, Nigeria Custom Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Persons, among others.

The IG has also given January 1, 2016 as the deadline for Supernumerary Police (SPY) to stop wearing police uniform.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Acting Spokesperson, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, in Abuja on Thursday.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has directed companies using Supernumerary Police (SPY) nationwide to stop the use of Police uniform for their operations on or before January 1, 2016.”

It stated that Arase gave the directive at a meeting with Security Managers of Companies using SPY Police for their internal security.

The measure, the statement stated, was part of his administration’s renewed crime fighting strategy aimed at curtailing activities of criminally minded persons.

The statement stated that Arase had approved the use of a newly designed grey and black trouser as the new uniform to be worn by spy police officers nationwide. (NAN)
