The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has vowed to press on with its campaign to actualise Biafra, especially now that President Muhammadu Buhari is allegedly excluding the South East from the administration of the country.

The MASSOB Regional Administrator for Ikwuano, Davidson Ohaegbu, while unveiling plans for the 16th anniversary celebration by the group holding today (Sunday, Sept. 13) to newsmen in Umuahia, posited that Nigeria would not experience peace till the South East actualises its right to self-determination.

“MASSOB will stop at nothing in actualising their struggle. If you look at the present interest of Ndigbo under President Mohammadu Buhari, you would come to the realisation that under the New Nigerian Nation, as promised by the president, is Nigeria without the South Easterners.

"That is the new nation because he has already drawn the line; Buhari is working for his own new nation. There is no going back on Biafra, because it is only when we actualise Biafra that there will be peace in Nigeria,” he said.

On the order issued by the Nigeria Police to MASSOB to call off its planned rally for today, Ohaegbu vowed that nothing would stop the group from marking its 16th anniversary.

He added,“We are used to their intimidation, harassment and imprisonment. These things do not matter anymore to us. Their actions would not stop us from going about with our struggle.”

He listed some of the events lined up for the anniversary celebration to include a thanksgiving service and peaceful rally.

Accompanied by Solution Edward, the Regional Administrator for Umuahia South, Ohaegbu stressed that at 16, MASSOB has grown to become an independent entity.

“There is every need to celebrate 16 years of brutalisation, 16 years of imprisonment, 16 years of all sorts of intimidation and harassment. But God has been so kind to us and has enabled us to withstand all these negative forces and to continue with the struggle. That is why we will be going to all the churches to give thanks to God because it has not been an easy struggle.”
