The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has promised to sustain partnership with Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in the Niger Delta region in turning out quality graduates from the institutions.

The member, representing Delta State on the Governing Board of the NDDC, Chief Tom Amioku, gave the assurance while commissioning a multi-million naira Engineering Workshop project at the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area for the development of the people of the state and its neighbours.

Amioku, flanked by the Delta State Director, NDDC, Mr Gbubemi Ogor, and other management staff of the commission, said: “The NDDC embarked on the construction of the Engineering Workshop project for the training of our students who will be better equipped to fill the gap in providing the technical expertise for the success of local content agenda.”

The scope of the project according to the NDDC boss includes “construction of Mechanical and Electrical workshop with administrative offices, provision of electrical materials and fittings and also plumbing and engineering installations”.

Commissioning some of the completed NDDC projects in Warri North, Warri South, Sapele, Ethiope West and Uvwie council areas, earlier, Amioku reminded the people that “the NDDC noble objective of transforming the Niger Delta region and bringing rapid sustainable development to it, cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of great threat to peace.”

He therefore called for their continued support and cooperation in the complex development process of the Niger Delta region, even as he promised the board’s commitment to tackling the onerous task ahead of it.

The commissioned projects include, Okirighwere-Amukpe-Shell and Agelaye roads, Sapele, Sapele local govt area, Sohworvwe street, Warri, Warri South, Mathew Abude road, Effurun, Internal roads at Effurun Army Barracks, Ogbe Avenue-Keme lane-Efetobor Street, Jakpa and Ufuoma Farm roads, Ekpan as well as Solar Street lights at Onoyake street-Agbamu Cresent, DDPA, Ugborikoko, all in Uvwie local government area.

Amioku said the NDDC would continue to strive in actualising the hopes and aspirations of the people, particularly in the provision of quality infrastructures that would enhanced quality of lives.

Spokespersons of the benefiting institutions and communities thanked the NDDC for its development strides across the states of the Niger delta region, urging it not to relent in that direction.
