The Chairman of the Christian Enlightenment and Welfare Organization, Bishop Joseph Ajujungwa, has called on the Federal Government not to abandon outstanding projects at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Recall that the newly reopened airport is littered with several uncompleted projects, including renovation works at the domestic terminal and construction of the international wing.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu on Thursday, the newly consecrated Bishop said it would be an eye-sore for the projects not to be completed in record time.

He said “we thank the Federal Government that at last the airport has been reopened. But our observation is that a lot still needs to be done.

"So, the litany of work there should not add up to the uncompleted projects in this area. Government should not look the other way because the airport has been commissioned."

Ajujungwa equally used the opportunity to commend Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State over the steps he has taken so far in the recent clash involving members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and security operatives.

Governor Ugwuanyi, after an emergency security council meeting, which was followed up by an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting, set up a panel to probe the incident.

Ajujungwa urged both parties to sheath their sword and allow the existing peace in Enugu State to prevail.

He noted that "there is no doubt that Governor Ugwuanyi has entrenched peace in Enugu State. What happened in Emene is an isolated incident and the governor has also taken the bull by the horn in getting to the root of the matter.

“We no doubt condemn in strong terms the unfortunate and avoidable deaths recorded on both sides.

“However, the steps the Governor has taken so far are quite commendable, so we are asking all frayed nerves to be calm and allow the existing peace in the State. The Governor has dealt with insecurity in the State a long time ago.

“Having said this, I urge all the people of the State to continue to support his administration and avoid any kind of sabotage even as 2023 draws to a close.”

Ajujungwa called on the Governor to be mindful of certain elements who would hide under the banner of certain groups to cause distractions in the State.

He, however, said it was regrettable that the church was failing in its duties, stressing that “it has left its duty post to pursue shadows.”
