The moribund government printing press in Umuahia, a department of the Abia State Ministry of Information and Strategy, appears to be bouncing back to life as it has commenced production customised file jackets for use by government ministries.

Armed with the modern files jackets and other stationeries, the Ministry has been knocking on the doors of heads of government to inform them that the Printing Press is back on its feet.

Already, the ministry has visited the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and that of the Head of Service (HOS).

At both offices, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Elder Ifeanyi Agbai, told their guests that they embarked on the visit to present more than 300 copies of the modern files to each of them as proof that the Government Printing Press has been revived.

Agbai used the opportunity to solicit for patronage of the government printing press, especially in printing of government documents as was the case in the past, adding that the agency would be strengthened and its past glory restored with such patronage.

Happy with the development, the Head of Service, Dr Vivian Umah, assured the Ministry that government documents would no longer be printed outside the government printing press.

Umah warned that any government establishment which printed government documents outside the government printing press would face serious sanctions.

Describing the Ministry of Information and Strategy as a pacesetter, the HOS commended Agbai and the management of the ministry for exhibiting high level of professionalism and unwavering efforts in reviving the press which was hitherto neglected and abandoned.

Umah explained that government invests heavily in establishing parastatals and enjoined all such agencies to justify their existence while warning that government would no longer condone financial recklessness on their part.

The HOS directed permanent secretaries to monitor very closely, activities of parastatals under their watch especially in the area of revenue generation and mode of recruitment.
