The Anambra State Police Command has arrested one 24-year-old Monday Eze, an indigene of Isielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi, for robbery.
The suspect was arrested on Friday, May 8, 2020 when he allegedly snatched a Qlink motorcycle belonging to one Mr Mbam Patrick at Ndiaku-anozie, Uruagu Nnewi.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said in a statement that the suspect specialises in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting riders.
His words: “On 8/5/2020 at about 1:30pm following intelligence report, Police operatives attached to Central Police Station Nnewi in conjunction with vigilante group arrested one Monday Eze ‘m’ aged 24 years of Isielu LGA of Ebonyi State. Suspect specializes in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint from unsuspecting motorcycle riders.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspect includes, the snatched motorcycle, one locally made gun and other personal effects of the victim.”
The PPRO said that the case is under investigation after which suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP John B. Abang has called on the public, particularly motorcycle riders, to be extra-vigilant on the passengers they carry as some of them belonged to motorcycle snatchers who disguise as passengers to snatch their motorcycles at a slight opportunity.
