Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has asked for more time to enable the commission prepare well to conduct a credible presidential election, Presidential Spokesman Reuben Abati has said.

Dr. Abati late this morning shared a link on his Facebook wall with the following headline: We will need “a bit more time” —Jega; Presentation at Council of State Meeting.

Abati provided a link to http://www.thewhistleng.com, which is believed to be published by him as he traditionally uses it to share stories, especially the ones concerning his boss, President Goodluck Jonathan.

News Express tried to log in to read details of the story but was told that “This site is temporarily unavailable.”

Jega was one of those who attended the National Council of State meeting held yesterday in Abuja. Contrary to the expectation in some quarters, the meeting refused to postpone the February 14 presidential election, for which INEC appears to be unprepared, but asked the commission to make its own decision on the issue.

Presided over by President Jonathan, the meeting was attended by state governors and Nigeria’s past Heads of State, the security chiefs, among others.
