The repair work on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, scheduled to begin tomorrow after a week’s suspension, will cost N1.005 billion.

This was disclosed yesterday by Minister of State for Works, Bashir Yuguda, who also unveiled Messrs Borini Prono as the project contractor. Julius Berger had earlier been touted as the contractor for the project expected to be completed within four months.

The famous bridge – the longest in Nigeria – was last repaired in 2008. Just as happened in 2008, the repair work will lead to partial closure of the bridge and the re-routing of traffic.

Alternative routes to Lagos Island during the period include Ikorodu Road-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Lagos Island, Ikorodu Road-Western Avenue-Lagos Island, Agege Motor Road-Oshodi-Apapa-Lagos Island/Victoria Island and Apapa-Oshodi Expressway - Mile 2-Orile-Lagos Island/Victoria Island.
