Thirteen people have been reported dead in a car bomb explosion in Maiduwa village, Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, North-East Nigeria.
However, while some reports put the death toll at 13, others said only six people were confirmed dead in the incident. An officer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Maiduwa Town, who pleaded anonymity told Channels Television that the bomber boarded a commercial Volkswagen Golf car with the explosive devices from Fika Town heading to Potiskum, the commercial nerve center of the state.
He further revealed that five kilometres after takeoff, the car ran into a coming vehicle, killing six people on the spot as the explosive devices went off prematurely.
The NURTW officer also said the incident happened around 1:00 pm yesterday with the survival of the Volkswagen Golf car driver and one other teenager who have both been taken to Fika General Hospital.
Maiduwa is 65 kilometres to Potiskum town east of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
