The Delta State Government says it would continue to support the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) scheme in the state so that it can meet the objectives for which it was established.
Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, made this known today (Tuesday, November 3, 2019) when he presented the NYSC Delta State Honours Award on behalf of the State Government to two Corp members who distinguished themselves in their Community Development Project in their place of posting during the 2018 service year.
The SSG, who also is the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, said the importance of the scheme cannot be over-emphasised as it has unified every part of the country through cultural integration of the participants of the scheme which was the original idea of the founding Fathers of the programme.
Mr. Ebie assured the NYSC Management that the State Government would ensure that corps members posted to the state to serve would be well catered for. He noted that the State Government had provided a lot of facilities for the NYSC Area Office in the South-South Zone located in Asaba and also at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku.
The SSG congratulated the recipients of the award and urged other corps members serving in the state “to emulate the exemplary character exhibited by the recipients of the award.”
Earlier, the Area Coordinator of the NYSC South-South Area Office, Mr. Omotade Ayodele, had thanked the State Government for the support given to the Delta State NYSC Office. He assured that the objectives of the scheme as propagated by the founding fathers would not be compromised.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of cheques to the recipients of the NYSC Delta State Honours Award by the SSG on behalf of the State Government.
The recipients of the award are Dr. Udo-Ubong Nkereuwem, who served in Assumption Catholic Hospital, Warri in Warri South LGA; and Mr. Igbato Domnic, who served in Ugbodu Secondary School in Aniocha North LGA.
