What was supposed to be a cool Monday, the very first day of the week and first Monday of the new month, November, turned out to be a day when Nigerian music lovers literally threw stones at each other as a result of one heated argument.

The reason for the internet fight on Twitter was based on the comparison between two Nigerian rap sensations – 30 years old Olamide Adedeji simply known by his stage name, Olamide, and Divine Ikubor popularly known by his stage name Rema.

While Rema’s fans maintained that the fast rising handsome 20 years old Edo State-born hip hop rapper, Afro beat singer, song writer, stage performer, recording artiste and model is better gifted, more skillful, creative and talented, Olamide’s fans would not want to hear any of that.

To them, their hero, BaddoSneh (as Olamide is referred to by his die-hard followers) who records mostly in Yoruba his native tongue, is the boss with experience spanning almost a decade.

A fan went ahead to list Olamide’s achievements as follows:

7 Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart entries.

3 Billboard World Albums Chart entries.

3 World Music Awards nominations.

First Nigerian Ciroc Ambassador.

First Artist to sell out Eko Convention Center 4 times.

Sold out Eventim Apollo.

Song played on UFC TV.

The fan then asked the other party, “show me even one of such achievements by Rema who Don Jazzy only drafted a few months back on his Marvin Records label”.

But to Rema’s fans, he remains their star if only for the fact that on October 19, 2019 he won Next Rated and was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies.

How this tensed argument will end, or where it will lead to, is what I don’t know.

One only hopes that it will not bring about another civil war … on Twitter.
