Irate oro worshippers were reported to have invaded a mosque at Idi-Iroko, a border town in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, dispersing Muslims on Saturday. The Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Sheikh Iskeel Lawal, disclosed this to newsmen in Abeokuta yesterday.
He said: “The incident occurred at 1:18 pm on Saturday when our Muslim brothers were observing Suhr prayer in Umar bin Khatab mosque at Odan-Aje behind the General hospital, Idi-Iroko.
“They (Oro worshippers) invaded the mosque and pelted the Imam and the congregation with stones, and sent them away from the mosque. They later destroyed the property in the mosque. We condemn the action of the Oro worshippers and urge the government to intervene in this issue before it escalates.” The spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the perpetrators had been arrested.
