Former military Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), has said that he is gunning for presidency for the sole purpose of rescuing Nigeria from the 15 years of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) misrule.

The former military ruler, while indicating his intention to contest for Presidential position in the 2015 general election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), however, said the only way out “is to vote PDP out of power, to which it was never legitimately elected.”

Buhari, who was addressing volunteers and representatives of his support groups in Abuja on Tuesday, told the supporters to get ready and participate in the preparation for the APC primary elections and also get ready, to do all it takes to wrest power from the PDP.

“I intend to offer myself for the position of the president of the republic on the platform of our great party. I intend to make a formal announcement soon and I hope I can count on your support and sacrifice,” Buhari said.

“If I get party nomination, I expect you will redouble your effort and commitment until we clinch the presidency. But in the event that it happens to be one of the other aspirants who wins, I will expect you as good party men to extend to him your total support,” he added.

The APC national leader warned his supporters and volunteers not to insult or be rude to any other aspirant or party leader on his behalf, adding that they must not engage in any kind of behaviour that will tarnish the image of any leader or cause division in the party.

“Whoever does that should know that he or she is working for the enemy. At the same time, I would like to appeal and urge you to be good ambassadors of the opposition,” he stated.

Coordinators of support groups from six geopolitical zones who spoke individually appealed to General Buhari to as a matter of urgency declare his intention to contest for the presidency in 2015.

Alhaji Kabir Sanni, the coordinator from North West zone, said Buhari remains the only candidate with capacity to deliver the country from years of backwardness. He told the General to heed the calls of the people across the country to contest the primary and therefore contest the 2015 election
