Obiano ‘plotting to install Chief of Staff as APGA National Chairman’

With less than two weeks to the national convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), reports have it that the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, is allegedly shifting base to sponsor his cousin and Chief of Staff, Mr. Primus Odili, for the post of the National Chairman.

Information gathered by the News Express has it the Odili came up as option B following continued pressure from some quarters to drop Oye in order to sustain the momentum in the party.

According to the source, the Governor has already set plans in motion to ease the way for Odili by giving more room for the accusations against the incumbent National Chairman.

When contacted, the state chairman of the party, Mr. Norbert Obi, denied knowledge of any plan to replace the incumbent National Chairman, with Primus Odili.

He said: “I am not aware, I don’t know about it. I said I don’t know about it.”

However, a pressure group in the party known as APGA People’s Alliance, has passed a vote of no confidence on the National Chairman of the party insisting that he should not be returned for a second term in office.

The group warned Obiano to be mindful of the grave consequences of returning Oye as the National Chairman of the party.

A communiqué signed by the leadership of the group, namely, Mr. Maxwell Mbanefo from Anambra State; Ugochukwu Ezeh, Enugu State; Chief Nelson Uzoechi, Imo State; Mr. Fabian Osuwa, Abia State; and Paulinus Nweke, Ebonyi State, said: “We the members of the APGA People’s Alliance in the South East  Geo political zone after five meetings in the five state capitals in the zone having under studied the result of the last general election and the conduct of the party primary elections here by resolved that.

“The tenure of Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the party has so far leaved much to be desired in view of his high handedness and litany of anti party activities to the detriment of the fortunes of the party.

“The high level of corruption extortion and day light rip off on aspirants of party during the last election under the nose of the National Chairman has greatly deepened the crisis in our party.

“To this end, we hereby pass a vote of no confidence on Chief Victor Oye and his entire executive members and we urge His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano to be aware of the grave consequences of returning Oye for a second term in office.”

Also speaking, the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Jerry Obasi, fingered the state governor of nursing plans to impose Oye on the party noting that such development will mark the end of internal democracy in APGA.

He regretted that the Governor has ignored the day light robbery that was prevalent in the last primary elections and the manner loyal party members were denied of their victory in that election.

“The Governor has chosen to return the same cabal that perpetrated this evil in our party,” Obasi stated.
