Police arrest suspected kidnapper in Yobe

Abdulmalik Sunmonu, Police Commissioner of the Yobe State Police Command has revealed that they have arrested a suspected kidnapper in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directive to all police commands across the country to curb all forms of crimes and criminality, especially in incidences of kidnapping and other crimes.

He stated this while addressing newsmen at the Command headquarters in Damaturu saying that the police detectives attached to Potiskum Division, acting on intelligence report on 18th April, 2019, arrested one Tasiu Abdulkareem in connection with the kidnapping of one Mohammed Adamu, age five, from Damboa area, Potiskum Yobe State.

The young boy was suspected to have been kidnapped by Tasiu Abdulkareem of Nasarawa area of Plateau State but resided in Tsangayan Mai Buzu, Potiskum, Yobe State.

The Police Commissioner said that “investigations revealed that Mohammed Adamu was kidnapped on 17/04/2019 at about 1700hrs. He was kidnapped when the kidnapper saw him playing alone in front of his father’s house opposite Tsangayan Mai Buzu, Potiskum. Later, the kidnapper sent a phone number written on a piece of paper to the father of the kidnapped, ransom negotiation began when the father called the number.

“The suspect kidnapper demanded the sum of  8 million naira, which was bargained and brought to N50,000. The investigation further revealed that the victim was taken to the kidnapped at Tandari ward of Potiskum, opposite graveyard inside a new suck away and found the dead body of the kidnapped.

“The suspect has confessed to his crime and confirmed to the police that he is alone in the act, thus will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.”

Exhibit recovered from the suspect according to the police include a Techno cellphone, two SIM cards of Airtel and MTN, one GT Bank ATM and one voter’s card. (Daily Independent)
