Another tragedy involving a church has occurred even as the nation and, indeed, Africa, continues to mourn the death of 86 persons in the collapsed Synagogue Church building in Lagos.
The scene of the latest tragedy is Benin City, capital of Edo State, where three people were confirmed dead after a church building a storey building belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God collapsed at about 2pm yesterday in the Erhunse area of the city.
About nine people were said to be demolishing the building, following the relocation of the church to a new structure, when it caved in, trapping the workers inside.
The incident happened exactly a week after a guest house in Pastor TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church headquarters in Ikotun Egbe, Lagos, collapsed while being converted from two-storey to five-storey, with the bulk of the victims being visiting South African faithful.
Just like Synagogue, Christ Chosen, which is owned by charismatic Pastor Reuben Muoka, is among Nigeria’s crowd-pulling Pentecostal churches which claim to perform miracles.
