About 4,000 Nigerians and an undisclosed number of foreigners are being held captive by kidnappers in various parts of the country.
The figure was given on Thursday by the Senate while debating the increasing menace of kidnappers and bandits across the country in a desperate search for a solution.
Listed among the victims of the kidnappers are 20 housewives from Niger State and two Chinese expatriates.
The Upper House of the National Assembly lamented that the country is now under the firm grip of kidnappers and bandits and stressed the need for an urgent solution to the problem.
As reported yesterday by News Express, the senators as part of the search for a solution have summoned Acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu to appear before them to explain what is being done to check the ugly trend.
