The Senate has summoned the Acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu to brief it on initiative put in place to tackle insecurity situation in the country.

It equally demanded for special security cover to foreign workers and tourists.

These resolutions came following the motion sponsored by Senator Shehu Sani who raised a motion on the killing of a 28 -year old Briton, Faye Mooney and another Nigerian and abduction of three others on Friday, April 19, 2018 at Holiday Resort in Kajuru Local government, during the plenary on Thursday.

Sani expressed dismay with recent attacks on individuals, houses and villages across the country.

The upper chamber however urged the traditional rulers and all stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies in order to tackle continuous insecurity in the country.

Reacting to the development, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, blamed the former IGP Idris Ibrahim for failing to cooperate with parliament in tackling the insecurity problem in the country.

According to him, “Distinguished colleagues, I thank you all for your contribution on this subject matter. We need, as I said in addressing this matter to take hard and difficult decisions and have a more structural approach to issue of security.

“As I said, we lost a lot of time and there was very little cooperation with the Head of Police and we hope that with the new Acting Inspector General of Police, the good actions we have taken on the issue of the Bills we have passed from Police Reform Act and Trust Fund shows that we are ready to work very closely with them to see how they can be successful.

“We hope that with this, we will begin to see improvement in the security situation in the country.”
