The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mustapha Dandaura, on Wednesday warned that any police personnel caught taking bribe would be dismissed from the force.
He gave the warning in a statement made available to journalists in Awka the Anambra State capital by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed.
The CP urged the officers to be civil to members of the public in accordance with international best practices.
While addressing the officers, Dandaura enjoined them to be more professional, proactive, firm but civil to members of the public when discharging their duties in accordance with internationally acceptable best practices.
The statement reads in part: “I warn you people against any form of extortion and corrupt practices. Any officer found wanting will face severe disciplinary action which may include outright dismissal from the force.
“Take special steps to sanitise Onitsha axis of the state of hoodlums and bandits that had made life unbearable in the area.”
The CP further directed that patrol teams be deployed to Onitsha for special operations in order to sanitise the area of armed banditry such as ‘One Chance and Hand Bag’ snatching syndicates, particularly at the Head Bridge and Upper Iweka axis.
Officers at the briefing include those attached to Safer/Federal Highway Patrol teams at the state Command in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
