The Special Anti-Cultism Unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of Anambra State Command has arrested a total of 151 suspected cultists from various parts of the state.
Out of the number, 16 suspects were arrested in Okija, 12 in Nanka, 11 in Nkwelle and 11 in Ogidi.
Other points of arrest include Awka, where 9 suspects were arrested, 8 in Ajali/Oko, 14 in Enugwu Ukwu/Nimo/Nise, 18 in Fegge/Awada and 12 in Inland town Onitsha.
While 13 suspects were arrested in Achalla, 7 suspects were nabbed in Urum, 4 in Ogbunike, Amawbia, 15 in Ukwulu /Ukpo, and 9 suspects elsewhere.
The coordinated raids on criminal hideouts and black spots in the state led to the recovery of three machetes, four axes, two berets and some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that out of the 151 suspects arrested so far, 40 have confessed to the alleged crimes and were subsequently charged to court, 62 were screened and released, 20 were under-age and placed under supervision while 29 others are undergoing investigation.
He called on the public to report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest Police Station or call this emergency number 07039194332 for prompt response.
