BREAKING: Fire razes INEC office in Akwa Ibom

Less than 24 hours to the governorship and House of Assembly elections, the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been gutted by fire.

A report on the incident by Channels Television said the cause of the fire is yet to be known.

A follow-up report by the station quoted INEC as allaying fears that the fire incident might affect tomorrow’s governorship and state assembly polls.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mike Igini, told Channels Television on Friday that although a good portion of the building was gutted by the fire, the materials for the elections were intact.
