Three suspected armed robbers and murderers are currently in police custody, following their arrest by police operatives attached to the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Anambra State.
The suspects, Chimezie Aronu , 22; Uchenna Obiora, 18; and Chibuike Omankwu, aged 20 years old, were nabbed in the wee hours of Saturday in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that the suspects were rounded off following an intelligence report.
The suspects allegedly robbed and killed one Ifeanyi Nwanga in Ifite Dunu, in the Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday with gunshots.
The statement reads in part: “The suspects have confessed to the crime and also led the Police to the place where they hid the weapon used in perpetrating the dastardly act.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one cut-to-size single barrel gun and one cartridge.”
Mohammed said the case is under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
Meanwhile, a suspected motorcycle snatcher, 22-year-old Chidioke Chinedu from Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state has also been arrested by the State Police Command.
The suspect whose arrest was made possible following intelligence report gathered by Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Cult unit was arrested with a stolen motorbike.
According to a police statement, the motorbike was the one previously snatched by the suspect and his gang members from their victim.
The PPRO said that while the case is under investigation, effort is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices in order to bring them to justice.
